Probation
Probation is a court order through which an offender is placed under the supervision of a probation officer in lieu of imprisonment, so long as the offender meets and maintains certain standards of conduct. Probation provides a cost-effective alternative to imprisonment that can offer restitution to victims, provide for public safety, and help restore offenders to productive lives.
The Scott County Probation Department serves the Scott Circuit and Superior Courts, and is responsible for the supervision and investigation of adult and juvenile offenders, both pre-trail and post-conviction. The mission of the Probation Department is to enforce the mandates of the Courts through community protection and accountability, and to improve competency development through engaging community resources to individuals under probation supervision. Probation strives to achieve excellence in supervision by providing the highest quality services to the Courts, victims, offenders, families, and community. This is achieved through evidence-based interventions that demonstrate a balanced approach between treatment and enforcement.
